Vet Sertizen of 4 years, Senior AI Researcher, Ankush Ganguly, has been improving and nurturing his career by taking up many technical responsibilities which has helped him learn and grow as a researcher in his field.

Discover his inspiring and impressive career story through our Sertizens Stories interview, as he shares with us his feelings since Day 1 when he first joined Sertis to present, his work initiative he is most proud of, the best thing about working at Sertis, and last but not least, advice he has for future Sertizens who wish to join our company.

My journey at Sertis

I joined Sertis as an AI Researcher back in 2018, after completing my masters. As a fresh graduate, I was eager to work in the field of Machine Learning and AI and the opportunity to work at Sertis could not have come at a more fortunate time. Since I joined, I got to work on a wide variety of projects ranging from face recognition, sport analytics, generative modeling and Bayesian ML to name a few. These four years at Sertis has led me to take up technical responsibilities, such as implementing ML pipelines to authoring research papers — always allowing me to push my boundaries, helping me learn and grow as a researcher in my field.

Comparing your Day 1 to present

If I had to describe my emotions on Day 1 of joining Sertis, it’d be “nervous and excited”. I was extremely overwhelmed with the thought of delivering quality work for my team. This research position was a dream come true and therefore the margin of error could not be any more than negligible. Comparing that day to now, I’d say I still get nervous and excited whenever I start working on a project. However, I try to spin a positive turn on those emotions, as I’ve realized that I’m supported by a team of supportive and talented people who have faith in me and who “got my back” if things head south.

Your most proud of initiative

At the beginning of 2021, the AI team started the initiative of actively documenting our research into academic papers and blog posts, with the intention of showcasing our technical expertise and achievements to potential clients and academicians alike. Since then, we’ve been published in a peer reviewed journal, gotten accepted into a prestigious ML conference and increased the traffic on Sertis website with our technical blog-posts. Not only this, it has massively helped to hone our academic writing skills. This entire initiative was conceived just as an idea which couldn’t have been turned into a reality without the support from my team, who I’m extremely grateful to and proud of.

The best thing about working at Sertis

The people. Accepting my job offer from Sertis meant moving to Thailand all by myself. But meeting the “Sertizens’’ and getting to know them better reminded me of a familiar feeling — the feeling of family. We are a company and our main purpose is to make AI technologies accessible to companies and the general public, yet the strong core of our outward success lies in the strength of our internal connections, our interactions, and our sense of togetherness.

Any advice to Sertizen new joiners

To all the new and future Sertizens, I’d like to say that while working at Sertis you’ll not only be able to nurture your career and make a difference but also be able to interact with awesome, talented individuals making lifelong friendships and connections along the way.
